MPA Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor of PML – N accused of hitting female MPA
There was accusation against MPA Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor of hitting the female MPA’s of PML – Q during Punjab Assembly session. Ch. Abdul Ghafoor has denied these allegations. The same MPA was involved in the Lahore Airport incident.
PML-N, PML-Q MPAs come to blows in Punjab PA
LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Monday witnessed complete mayhem after Prisons Minister Ch Abdul Ghafoor manhandled a woman legislator of the PML-Q for displaying a banner against the chief minister.
Ghafoor embarrassed the entire treasury after he manhandled two women parliamentarians as well as used abusive language against Bushra Nawaz Gardezi. He hit headlines after his encounter with customs officials at the Allama Iqbal International Airport last month.
Meanwhile, amid severe criticism against the PML-N leadership, the opposition staged a walkout and demanded immediate dismissal of the minister from the cabinet. Forward bloc leader Ata Maneka also joined the walkout.
Situation got tense in the assembly when, during a point of order, Senior Minister Raja Riaz used the words ‘Ghaddar’ (traitor) and ‘Indian agent’ against Legharis to taunt the PML-Q legislator Mohsin Leghari. Mohsin had criticised the PPP leadership a few minutes earlier for its silence over the blockade of water to the Taunsa-Panjnad Canal.
Cross comments were made from both the treasury and the opposition. Following this, PML-N parliamentarian Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, on a point of order, once again criticised ëLegharis’. This once again infuriated the opposition MPAs and women members of the PML-Q, including Bushra Nawaz Gardezi and Samina Khawar Hayat, raised placards inscribed with slogans against Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, calling him a traitor. This provoked a sharp reaction from the treasury benches and most of the members stood up on their seats and started shouting against the opposition.
In the meantime, the prisons minister rushed to the benches where the women MPAs of the PML-Q were sitting. Much to the surprise of his own party members, he pushed back Bushra Nawaz Gardezi and Samina Khawar Hayat and tried to snatch the placards. After his party men stopped him from all this, he used abusive language against the women parliamentarians.
This resulted into an exchange of hot words between the two sides and they hurled copies of the budget book at each other. A PML-N MPA from Gujranwala, Shaukat Manzoor Cheema, also had a brief scuffle with deputy opposition leader Muhammad Yar Hiraj. A copy of the budget book thrown by Cheema hit Dr Samia Amjad.
Soon after the opposition member left the house in protest, Shehzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, a PML-N MPA from Sargodha, protested the manhandling of women. Later, talking to the media along with other members, opposition leader Ch Zaheeruddin demanded sacking of Ch Abdul Ghafoor and announced to continue the boycott of the proceedings till the minister is dismissed.
Bushra Gardezi on MPA Abdul Ghafoor – PML -N, good think he didn’t hit me I would have killed him.

Will this story find a way to PKP? Most probably not and if it finds a way it will be put in a less visible place.
Btw: it’s a circus and not a PA. On that background I have confidence in the leadership from the BB (Butt Brothers).
Mathematically BB=BB…right? and so is their rule. They are two sides of the same (fake) coin!
dun know abt that but its just show how retard our electeed leaders are
I had the feelings all these are preplanned Nora Kushti at least from the perpetrator’s side.
This country has far more serious problems than hitting of women MPAs.
Just make the headline so people should not worry about real issues.
Someone intentionally or unintentionally is beneficiary of these Malakhradhs.
End of honeymoon for “Khadim e Aala”!!!
I go with the Nura Kushti theory. Zardari is playing a game with PML-N. I think if NS does not take an initiative and take control of the unfolding events people will loose whatever little confidence they have in his leadership. So far he has enjoyed benefit of the doubt but he is running out of “Political Lifes” very quickly.
@nota:
Regrading calling Mohsin Leghari “traitor” etc, these guys are shameless. I had a similar encounter with Hamid Nasir Chattha and Baloch (JI). Chattha tried to give some stupid explanation that I am sure even he did not believe. That was soon after 17th Amendment. Baloch also got it in the neck!!!! But he was sensible enough not to insist on defending MMA party line.
Chattha invited me to come to Pakistan and bring the revolution along! I told him if that happened he and his ilk will be hanging from the lamp posts!
Rauf Klasra came up with the theory that Zardari very keen to make saraiki sooba as saraikis always vote for PPP (read Rauf Klasra always vote 4 ppp) and thus wants new province to finish Nawaz Sharif and PML N once and for all. Ayaz Mir in same program suggested Establishment and Zardari wants to finish PML – N.
IF PML – N can only survive cuz of Punjab then bring on the new province. I have said it b4 am saying again. PML – N (read NS) has missed the golden opportunity after the restoration of judiciary by not starting tour of Pakistan and re-organizing the party. Specially the cowardice shown by the leader NS and SS by not getting to NWFP.
@afzaalkhan I completely agree with you on NS loss. He has missed an opportunity. He was a giant after restoration of the judiciary. He is just another midget now.
But then it is a case of first among midgets!
There is such a vacuum of leadership. Pls don’t misunderstand that any of the “Shaheeds” would have filled that void. After Quid we lacked any serious leadership with the intellectual capacity to move the country forward. There was no revolutionary leader who could unite the country on one platform.
@Taukeer,
“He has missed an opportunity. He was a giant after restoration of the judiciary. He is just another midget now.”
Choor chori say jaa sakta hai, leykin haira phairee se nahiN…..though I think NS is still both thief and a cheater….There is also the one about the dogs tail
Here is a leader with vision:
Venezuelan leader vows to ‘act militarily’ after leftist ally Manuel Zelaya is overthrown and exiled to Costa Rica
By David Usborne
June 29, 2009 "
The Independent" — Honduras was plunged into a political crisis that threatened to spill across the region hours after President Manuel Zelaya was thrown out by the army and exiled to Costa Rica prompting his leftist ally in Venezuela, President Hugo Chavez, to threaten military intervention.Come on Chaves? No way if u had said Evo Morales of Bolivia then I would have agreed with you. But Hugo, Mr. I-Smell-Sulfur-In-UN-Devil-was-here-Chaves. lol
@nota
“I have had the honor of calling ML a “traitor”, “bay zamir”, “a man with no conscience” on face ”
Most probably with no effect, but it must have been a little relief for you after all
When this nation should be more interested to know what happened to looted money and when CJ is going to touch this issue.
What happened to going on corruption as pointed our by Ansar Abbasi and Shaheen Sehbai and many other journalists.
Why Nuclear Budget is drastically cut off.
Why coal of Thar is not used to make cheap electricity.
Who sold the exclusive rights of exploration of minerals and valued stones and Oil and gas in Baluchistan and at what rate.
Who is behind land mafia
I learn everyday some Sindhi bought a land for 15 lacs and sold it next day at 40 lacs.
Who are these people in a rush to accumulate money and who is helping them.
What happened to 17th amendment.
When we have to talk and learn about all these and many more issues….someone is always there to start a non issue like Kala bagh Dam or Saraiki Suba or create a controversy on distribution of water…or manhandling women MPAs or fighting over sanctity of their so called leaders.
Infact when you can think beyond today you are called conspiracy theorist because you are thinking of tomorrow not today.
Cj recent threat to Hamesh Khan of Bank of Punjab is significant and loaded with wielded threat to Zardari that you can not hide anywhere in world with your looted money…This court will come after you its better you return the loot.
Zardari is shrewd enough to not left this country capable of coming after any looter…He may be forced to leave his office in few months or at the end of his tenure but he will make sure country is weak enough or its Courts are corrupt enough to not to come after him when he leaves office….He can not enjoy his loot if he has no peace of mind.
Why CJ? Do we want judicial activism gone rampant in the country. SC should stay out of these cases. Its not SC business unless the constitutional matter needs to be taken care of. CJ Iftikhar has a clear problem with judicial activism and he should be reigned in. Its not CJ of Pakistan which will decide what should be done abt she-males. We have assemblies and elected govt how abt making them work. If SC of Pakistan is gonna decide everything then why we need elected govt. Why not have military and Courts rule the nation?
And that clearly is the problem, CJ should learn to talk like a judge not with threats but with rulings. If there is traffic jam in Karachi, this has nothing to do with Supreme court of Pakistan. If there is Load shedding crisis, SC of Pak has no say in it, things like that should not be in hands of Supreme court it will diminish court stature and make it a joke. An example of judicial activism gone rampant under CJ Iftikhar was the killing of 3 political leaders in Baluchistan some months back. High court of Baluchistan took sumoto notice of the killings (wrong move and act of blatant disregard of law and order system by the court), 2 days later CJ Iftikhar;s supreme court took sumoto notice of the killing and started the hearing thus making a mockery of High court. Under constitution and provincial autonomy idea Supreme court should shut up and let the high court decide wat to do.
@afzaalkha
If Admin is corrupt then lets welcome judicial activism.
This CJ is cautious about limitations of his duties.
If he suomoto traffic jam in karachi then be assured it comes under his jurisdiction otherwise he would never touch it.
If he is threatening Hamesh Khan as CJ the be assured it also comes under jurisdiction.
It was always better that democratic Govt should have taken all these steps but when they themselves are corrupt why blame CJ.
Activism of all kinds within their legal limits should be appreciated because its sign of life…Silence with inactivity while whole country going down the drain in front of you because its job of someone else, is shameless and worse than death.
I have no problem per se with Judicial activism, but do have with rampant judicial activism. Beside I dun think any judge should threaten anyone. I backed restoration of judiciary movement on principle not for CJ. I always find him to be engaging in rampant judicial activism. The sumoto notice is a previlage of Supreme court and must be used with discretion and in cases of national importance. If we need progress then we need to strengthen our institutions. Of these Supreme court has already been restored they should now do their duties. Tackle Judicial corruption, give space to lower courts to do their job. Supreme court is trying to run this country and am sorry I can’t agree with that. Either we all believe in democracy and parliment supremacy or we believe Supreme court is the highest institution in land. Elections have consequences and a corrupt govt will be replaced provided we follow democratic principles.
@afzaalkhan
Apparently you have dislike for persona of CJ…it has nothing to do with principles.
Cj whatever he is doing well within his jurisdiction.
We need his judicial activism more than anything to keep this impotent and worthless parliament and corrupt Govt. on tight noose.
Whether I like him or not thats beside the point. The facts can’t be disputed and u have not countered them. How do u know he is well within his jurisdiction? Says who? Nothing in law and medicine is absolute, there is always another view. By ur argument since the govt corrupt and imcompetent teh court should step in and do the job of govt, if we follow this argument then whats wrong with military take over when the elected govt is killing the country. Then ofcoz nazarya-e-zarrorat was jaiz and morally right?
Good call by speaker
I think Ch Abdul Gafoor wanted to stake his claim to being a party Jiyala. But that should not be excused and the civil society will have to extract a public apology from him. The people of this country will have to enforce a new code of conduct on the public figures. Jiyala pun will no longer be acceptable.
