Altaf Hussain Asks CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry to fix economy
Altaf demands summoto action against economic crisis.
Open letter of Altaf Hussain for CJP to take suo moto notice of economic crisis
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief, Altaf Hussain in an open letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan has appealed him for courageous decisions to guide the country out of the economic crisis. Altaf in his letter to the CJP said that the military generals, bureaucrats, feudal lords and industrialists have borrowed trillions of rupees from the banks during 1971 to 2009 and later got the loans written off. He demanded strict accountability of those individuals adding that the amount borrowed by them should be brought back to the national exchequer. MQM Leader further said that the country has been in a state of war and price hike, unemployment and hunger have made the life miserable. The provinces are angry over injustices and deprivation while thousands have been in jails under various charges and their families are living in misery. “The lawyers, civil society and political and religious parties launched a courageous movement for provision of justice, end of corruption and against the dictatorial steps of the governments,” he said. He requested the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry to treat his letter as a suo moto petition so as the country could be taken out of the economic crisis.

U gotta be kidding me, is this guy for real? lol
Mind boggling. You have to be one of his zombies to understand the rationale behind his “request”……….disturbed man with disturbed “ideas”.
Altaf with headache…..
@Observer you missed out the sunglasses. On a serious note are there really people who believe in this guy and follow him. Anyone from Karachi able to explain how come a dim wit like Altaf could be leading the educated masses of Karachi. I can just barely understand Zardari getting elected as President but I surely can’t understand this guy having the following that he has! And those who say that he does not have a real following are just burying their heads.
I demand that CJ takes sumoto action and fix altaf hussian lol
Taukeer,
There are indeed some die hard fans of Altaf Hussain. I believe it’s spread over 2 generations. First, those who witnessed discrimination against urdu speaking ppl back in the days, and second, you have a younger generation which has seen development works in Karachi. Lots of money has been spent on Karachi’s infrastructure.
First group of ppl think their ethnic community will be marginalized again if they ditched MQM, and 2nd group sees no reason to vote them out after seeing their tax money being spent to improve their lifestyle.
Both, however, do acknowledge the hooligan element within MQM, but for some reason this hasn’t turned their love for MQM into hatred.
@Mustansar
“Both, however, do acknowledge the hooligan element within MQM, but for some reason this hasn’t turned their love for MQM into hatred.”
More or less it is the same story all around. What about PPP in Sindh? Wouldn’t they vote for a donkey if it has the name Bhutto? We have a similar case in Punjab – though less significant – with the BB=Butt Brothers. The elder one is not bright (intelligent), but nevertheless he attracts huge numbers.
Maybe people have experienced too much intolerance and they have developed strong opinions about other groups on both ethnic and religious lines. What is the solution? A free, independent and strong judicial system, where people KNOW they can get justice.
Solution lies in educating masses. Media has played an important role in this regard. Only 30% of Pakistanis live in the urban areas who have access to these pvt channels thru cable. Huge portion of our population is being ruled by feudals and watches PTV.
If you carefully observe the results of last election in big cities you’ll see how those associated with Musharraf were thrashed except MQM.
Tide is turning but it’ll take some time before ppl start to realize that these tried and tested old horses are only interested in power and money and not their welfare.
“If you carefully observe the results of last election in big cities you’ll see how those associated with Musharraf were thrashed except MQM.”
Yes, and they voted for those who you describe as “tried and tested horses”. I agree with you with the “little” change that IMO it is the “tried and tested DONKEYS” people voted for again.
“Tide is turning but it’ll take some time before ppl start to realize that these tried and tested old horses are only interested in power and money and not their welfare.”
Completely agree, but I fear that people want to be fooled at least once more…I am almost convinced that PML-N will be the winner next time, but I am also confident that PTI will be able to win 15-25 seats. Hopefully they can follow in the footsteps of IK and show good governance. Then the way will could be cleared for a future setup where PTI could form the government. I know there is still a long way to go, but the shortcut could be early elections after the next elections…..It’s a lot of “khayalee pulao”, but where there is a will there is a hope;-)
@Mustansar Thanks, but the story of discrimination against “Mohajir” does not hold water for a second. <10% of the population holding more then >30% of top jobs in Pakistan. That is hardly discrimination. Infact I wont be surprised if they suffer from discrimination now! Now that the ugly head of ethnicity has reared it’s head. I can tell you from talking to people that “Mohajir” will only get their proportionate share unless we all subsume ourselves in the Pakistani Nationalist entity.
@taukeer
The discrimination was real, the effect of quota system did cause MQM and muhajir rise. Unlike jiyesindh and other nationalist movements the reason MQM succeeded was two fold.
1 – establishment backing so that they can counter JI and PPP in urban sindh.
2 – The educated brains behind the creation i.e Raees amroohi, hakim mohd saeed etc with disciplined trained party workers who left JI and PPP to join MQM.
But the seed of discontent were there and the effects of discrimination and the lasani fasadat were fresh in minds thus facilitating rise of MQM.
The ” Altaf Hussain phenomenon” is very simple.
It is no different than the Bhutto phenomenon or the Nawaz Shareef phenomenon etc etc. The totally uneducated and un thinking masses of the poor people are ready and willing to follow any crook, thief or charlataan just as all those that go to the graves of supposed saints and Nine Yard Pirs etc etc.
When people are breeding and breeding and breeding while claiming that it is GOD’s command to do so while in reality it is them indulging in SEX without any concern for the consequences- what can one expect from the offspring of such people whose severe problems have only one possible solution and that is MAGIC ! Anyone who promises MAGIC becomes an Altaf Hussain and lives in London in great luxury at the expence of those poor masses.
So stop looking for a solution. There is none. Once such MAFIAS take over- it is next to impossible to dislodge them. Just look at the PPP . These are not political parties- they are well organsied Mafias which are there for one reason only- to make the Godfathers and consigliaries rich and their children and great grand children richer and so on ad infinitum
@shimatoree “stop looking for a solution”, Boss that is a very defeatist line. We have to strive for utopia. Failure is not a crime but giving up is.
@afzaal “quota system did cause MQM and muhajir rise” How do you equalize the opportunity of people regardless of where they come from? You have to have a mechanism to include people from less developed area. Like would you want candidates from Baluchistan excluded for ever just because they wont be able to compete with karachites or Lahorites etc. I am sure those who want to create division will find some excuse for doing that.
My assertion is that how could a subsection of population outperform the rest of the population on every socioeconomic measure complain of oppression! Just do a search of you tube and listen to Altaf Kaliya’s wild allegations agianst every other subsection of the country. He must be pretty mad! And his supporters can’t be excused because they follow him blindly.
I agree with you on the establishment and it’s role in creating MQM to cut to size other political players. But then Pakistani Establishment has a track record of overplaying it’s hand and it never learns.
The quota system intially implemented by Bhutto was for 10 yrs to bring Sindh’s rural area par with urban area. Its only implemented in Sindh not in other provinces. With the nationalization policy of bhutto, Urban population of Sindh was not even able to get admission in Daud Engineering college which was built by seth daud for karachi population, why u think NS provided seats in Punjab for Karachi population.
@Taukeer
“Failure is not a crime but giving up is.”
Very good, yaar. passivity is NOT an option!
I am just amazed at the lacking spirit of the board.
Unanimously board is talking about Altaf Hussain not what he has said in his letter.
I initially thought shimatoree was little different in the beginning but soon he switch to Altaf bashing.
There are many facets of corruption in Pakistan…one of them probably most important one is bank defaulters.
Resourceful people borrow billions from Bank then default and somehow private Banks with Govt silent approval right off those amounts.
Regardless of how good or bad Altaf Hussain is….by writing this letter to CJ of Pakistan at least he is proving he is not corrupt in this regard.
We are Pakistani its little hard for us to be open minded.
U kidding me right, lets not go into how corrupt who is, and lets concentrate on the letter. He is asking CJ to fix economy and get bank defaulters, he is the damn govt why dun he do it himself, if he thinks corruption is big issue. Why then he has np taking advantage of NRO, MQM is the party that has gained most by NRO not even PPP can come close. But enuff of that simple qts, MQM has been and is part of govt why asking CJ to do the job of govt? Then why we have assemblies n election. Lets put a competent technocrate to run the govt backed by Military and justice. Lets get rid of all politicians see simple solution
Probably his NRO benefit is not corruption related.
His share in fed govt is more of a symbolic not on policy matters.
Now you are kidding me when you said corrupt Govt should take action against corruption under their umbrella.
If SC not to be approached on such matters then please quote some institutions you know and think can handle these issues.
Probably you will not dare naming GHQ or President House or PM House.
What I suspect you will name Parliament but then you will be the first to switch goal oriented serious discussion into comedy.
u seems to hell bend on judicial activism. You want courts to run the govt, and I can’t agree on that sorry. Either govt does its job or we change govt. But courts should stay out of it. Its height of stupidity to ask courts to fix economy. If its just symbolic that they are part of govt then they should sit in opposition. Forget Federal govt they have governor and they rule urban area the least they can do is fix these.
@Jazoo
In a democratic society you have trias politica and if you want to change anything then firstly you need massive public support which means that we must start from the top i.e. the leadership. They need to make laws and ensure that no abuse of power will cause any culprit to escape from the police and judiciary. First the leadership to send the right signals that the mean business i.e. no matter who breaks the law he/she will be caught and be tried in a court of law. To set a good example I think Altaf Hussain should come back to Pakistan and clear himself in a court of law…off course in a transparent manner so nobody is able to point fingers towards him and the rest of MQM. The same goes for any other leader be it Zardari or NS/SS. You have to lead by example!
@jazoo
When I read your comment- I was remided of the famous saying of President Reagan of the USA when he said-
” There you go again ! ”
No criticism of Altaf Hussain was made in a specific manner but the conditions which lead to this or other similar problems were mentioned. Is that TOO ABSTRACT for you ?
@ Taukeer
I am willing to accept the label of a defeatists and pessimist- but pray answer my comments rather than being optimistic and bubbly.
@ afzaalkhan
Judicial activism is OK. If the so-called elected representatives will not do it- let the judges do it but it needs to get done.
@ observer
Giving up is a crime ! Perhaps but when you are lying on the gurney and the blade of thew guillotine has started it’s movement towards your neck- what else you can do but give up.
@Shimatoree
Maybe you are right, but it is still our damned duty to continue to believe in the right cause. Countries are created and sometimes they break up. Anyways the fight must continue. If we are persistent in achieving a good cause and can learn something to future generations then one day the dream might become true of an independent and prosperous Pakistan. That may happen in 25 years or 100 years or even more….The fight must go on even if Pakistan is divided. Anything else would be wrong! Haven’t we seen divided countries been joined together again?
Observer
The problem I commented upon is systemic. It is sort of like BLOOD Cancer in a human being like leukemia.
The bone marrow produces too many cells and just keeps on doing it. Since the body has limited resources- the cancer cells take away the nutrition from the normal cells of the body and if un checked the body dies. Our resources(of all kinds) are limited and the worst kind of stress is being placed on those limited resources. Just look at something which is easy to understand. All the brains are leaving- those that hav not left want to leave. What is left-(majority) want to have as their leaders people like Altaf Hussain, Zardari, Bakhtawar ,Fazlu etc etc.
It was as though someone had died and had decided before dying that the vultures and hyenas will be the ones to take care of the body. Of course they will eat it.
Pakistan to-day in far more serious trouble than anyone cares to admit and will continue to be in the same trouble if-( for sure) the scoundrels remain in command which is likely.
I for one am not too thrilled by this mantra of democracy- because if you accept this solution then do not complain about Zardari and Altaf Hussain and Nawaz Shareef etc because the democracy you will have wil bring these same people to the top.
As a doctor would say- the PROGNOSIS is very BAD.
And I never said anything about break up.
@Shimatoree
“As a doctor would say- the PROGNOSIS is very BAD.”
No disgareement here. We might not have solutions for all kind of ailment, but you seek/investigate and you will find the cure.
“And I never said anything about break up.”
No, I was just explaining how I look at the scenario.
“Pakistan to-day in far more serious trouble than anyone cares to admit and will continue to be in the same trouble if-( for sure) the scoundrels remain in command which is likely.”
Agreed, and those who pinpoints the problems are called all sorts of names like “Taliban Khan” by our Baboons.
Democracy??……..We need sincere leaders. I cannot see any other solution than a true democratic setup regardless of how remote that may seem to be.
@observor
I am not defending Altaf…I am supporting what he says in this letter.
We can not declare someone outright evil…we have to see what he is saying…even good things come out of bad mouth.
If you ask me I think no bigger Satan exists on this face of earth than Dick Chenny but that does not block my ears to listen what he has to say.
If Dick Chenny has to appeal International Court to bring to justice all those who are responsible for Iraq war…I would appreciate him at the same time I will pray he be the first victim of international justice.
If all of you are so hellbent against Altaf then pray he be the first victim of his appeal to CJ….But at least appreciate he is asking for justice.
For us Mulims nothing should be more important than justice because Allah Himself call Just and final day is all about justice.
@Jazoo
What I am trying to say is that such requests from Altaf is like a request from a thief where he says “do not steal”. Which effect does such requests have though the message is right. At best it would be called hypocrisy and in fact it will have the opposite effect. A request for good behavior will only have an effect if the man/woman requesting does have a ballast for the request!
