RAWALPINDI (Babar Malik): Awami Muslim League’s chief Shiekh Rasheed escaped an apparent attempt on his life here Monday in which four people were killed and three others wounded, reported ARY NEWS.
However, he has received some injuries in his foot and is being treated in DHQ Hospital.
Rasheed, who is contesting the bye-polls at NA-55 scheduled to be held later this month, was visiting one of his election offices in Khayaban-e-Sir Syed in the downtown city when unknown armed men targeted him, his personal assistant Javed Qureshi told newsmen on phone.
“He was returning after visiting the office when unidentified gunmen from front side opened indiscriminate firing with Kalashnikovs,” Javed told the media. “Four people, including Rasheed’s bodyguards and workers, who were escorting him out were shot dead while he fell down on the floor.”
Qureshi said Shiekh Rasheed has been rushed to hospital as he has received some injuries in his foot. However, he was unaware either the injuries were of gunshot.
Markets were shut in the area while hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital and at the incident site – one of Rasheed’s strongholds in the city – and chanted slogans against the provincial government and the candidates contesting election against him.
Heavy contingents of police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. The road has been blocked for all kinds of traffic while police is attempting to diffuse the tension and disperse the protesters.
President Asif Ali Zardrari has ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.

ARY: Sheikh Rashid asks PML-N to unveil attackers
Chief of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has asked the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz)-led provincial government to unveil the perpetrators behind the murder attempt on his life if it was not involved in the attack.
Talking to Kashif Abbasi in ARY NEWS’ program Off The Record here Tuesday, he said he suspects that the PML-N might be behind the Monday’s attack on his election office in which four of his colleagues were killed and many others injured. Ahmed narrowly escaped the attack and wounded in the leg as he fell down on the floor to avoid being targeted by unknown armed men.
However, he said he cannot directly charge anyone, including the PML-N, of the attack in the absence of any solid proof.
Rasheed claimed that the police did not arrive at the scene for four hours after the firing incident.

I am not there on the ground but people can see through all the drama. Sheeda will loose miserably. I know people are disappointed with PML-N inability to provide leadership in these desperate times but Sheeda is just too cheap.

On a serious note, everyone know it would be a miracle if sheeda wins RWP seat, but it would be great fun if he does, PML – N lost lakki marwat Provincial seat too. Personally I would have like to see PTI wins Pindi but dun seem like that gonna happen. A sear adjustment with JI could have made that happen. Anyway, PML – N has lost 2 imp by-elections lakki marwat and mansehra not to speak of G &B and others and surprise is JUI -F scooping those seeats. A pindi loss would be huge wake up call for PML – N

is main looTey ki kia baat I can cite u numbers. Pindi has PML – N majority. Leagues are divided still btween PML – Q and N. PML – Q has lower numbers. The independents will go with PTI and Sheeda. So sheeda get PML – q and some independents. With other share divided btween JI and PPP. 4 Sheeda to win he needs all PPP and PML – Q votes.
