The government has withdrawn the notification about the elevation of Chief Justice of Lahore High Court as Supreme Court judge.

On the recommendation of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, two permanent judges and one ad-hoc judge have been appointed to the Supreme Court.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said the current tension between judiciary and government has now ended.

Earlier, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry met Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Prime Minister House.

The meeting continued for more than 2 hours, which was also attended by Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Khokhar and Law Secretary Aqil Mirza.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Gilani told media the government has decided to elevate Justice Saqib Nisar and Justice Asif Khosa to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, while Justice Khalil Ramday will be appointed as an ad-hoc judge in the apex court for a period of one year.

He said Justice Khawaja Sharif will continue to work as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court.

Gilani said the decision has been taken in the best interest of nation, country, political forces and the democratic system.

Premier Gilani said: “We have held a meeting with the Chief Justice of Pakistan as part of a consultative process according to the Constitution.”

To a question, he said the decision has full backing of President Asif Ali Zardari. “I and President Zardari are part of one party,” he commented.

About appointment of judges in Lahore High Court and Singh High Court, he said that notification would be issued today, while all vacant slots would be filled.

    ARY: Zardari signs summary on judges appointment

    President Asif Ali Zardari has signed a new summary regarding appointment of three judges of the Supreme Court and 22 additional judges of Lahore High Court (LHC) and nine of Sindh High Court (SHC), presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.

    The president, on the advice of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, appointed Justice Saqib Nisar and Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa of LHC as judges of the Supreme Court.

    A retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, was reappointed as judge of the apex court on an ad hoc basis for one year.

    ARY: SC orders NAB to implement court decisions

    Chief Justice of Pakistan has admonished Chairman National Accountability Bureau Naveed Ahsan for non-implementation of the court decisions and ordered him to ensure immediate enforcement of the Supreme Court judgments and to submit report about compliance on March 02.

    Supreme Court during hearing of the Bankers City case immediately called NAB chairman Naveed Ahsan and asked him about implementation of the December 16 court verdict. The Chief Justice asked from the NAB chief the reason not to writing letter to Swiss government about reopening of the cases.

    NAB chairman said that he has sought directives from the Secretary of Law and assured the court that the action on Swiss cases will be started soon.

    The Chief Justice ordered for immediate implementation of the court decisions including the Swiss case issue, and said oherwise the court will freeze salary of the chairman and the NAB prosecutors will not be allowed to appear in any court.
