Why Imran Khan?

Why Imran Khan?

It seems that Imran Khan is the year 2012’s sizzling target for criticism. His growing popularity among the people of Pakistan, mainly the youth, is not easy to stomach for most political forces in Pakistan for obvious reasons. They consider Pakistan their inherited land.

Interestingly, Imran is being attacked from all quarters. Both right and left wingers leave no stone unturned to ridicule him. He is being labeled as a hypocrite, clean-shaved Taliban and Jews agent and is flourishing on a huge financial backing of a hidden power. He is, undisputedly by all anti-IK forces in Pakistan has been declared the establishment’s blue-eyed boy.
The notorious party MQM in the past had stooped even lower by bringing in Sita White’s story and painted Karachi’s walls black and blue with derogatory words written for Imran Khan.

While the right wing supports Imran Khan on his stance on drone attacks, they haven’t been so kind to him either. One example is Imran’s mistreatment at the hands of JI students’ wing in the University of Punjab. The fact that they, along with IK, fought the dictator together was conveniently forgotten.

Lets analyze if the charges leveled by the right and the left wing of the political forces of Pakistan are legitimate or is Imran Khan is the new epitome of balanced democratic system in Pakistan that is in the making.

We live in the era of most advanced technology where even a trivial news makes big headlines and a big thing goes unnoticed. The biased journalism and favoritisms is making a big difference; the public is torn between a range of anchors and their analysis. They are baffled and misguided and the result is perplexed opinion based on personal liking and disliking. This situation favours the culprit because people believe what the like to believe and no anchor can change the way they consider Nawaz Shareef or Zardari or Imran Khan some kind of god. This is like a circus where all political parties have their own people on different channels as their puppets.

The way almost all political parties are threatened of Imran Khan and PTI, itself is a proof strong enough to suggest that Imran has made it big already. No politician, including Zardari and Shareefs, let any public speaking go without criticizing the captain. Not to mention the loads of columns being written by their paid journos to ridicule him.

According to the election commission statistics, apart from the committed voters of the two mainstream political parties, approximately 50% of the voters are impartial. They either choose not to vote or pick random candidates to vote. This lot is impartial, they are moderates and that is what Imran Khan in focusing at, moderates. This is how Imran Khan is going to make it.

The younger and even older generation is sick and tired of the current musical chair. They are disillusioned with the tried and tested people and their rotten manifesto that are only published and never implemented. They do not want to deny Imran Khan a chance and rightly so. Why should we deny him a chance when we generously elected the other two parties repeatedly? Have they done anything for the betterment of the country? The answer is a big NO.

Amidst criticism and terrorism, all Pakistan need is a modest policy to run the state affairs. Let’s join hands and support Imran Khan and his agenda. After all it won’t be worse than what it already is.

I dun think article anywhere begs its just point out the hypocrisy of ppl criticizing him. On what basis PML criticize anyone, they are all products of dictators and schemed and worked with all dictators yet has balls to talk abt principled stance? Just look at lota group in Punjab Assembly and the friendly oppositon to Zardari. If IK continues the time is not far away when zardari and PML will be merging in one party, for crying out loud ur leader already agreed that they wont resign and allow senate election on a promise that elections will be called.

PML-N rally: From ‘go Zardari’ to ‘go Imran’

While ostensibly, the rally was part of the opposition’s ‘Go Zardari’ campaign, PTI chief Imran Khan seemed to receive as much flak in Nawaz’s speech as the president himself. In fact, the PML-N chief’s speech echoed two of Imran’s key stated agendas – bringing ‘change’, and working against corruption. The Memogate petition, however, was significantly absent from the address.

Addressing a rally which Senator Pervez Rashid estimated to be 150,000 strong and which media more conservatively estimated at 60, 000, Nawaz said he would bring about change to Pakistan himself. This will be brought about through competent and honest people like Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, Usman Ibrahim, Ishaq Dar and Khurram Dastgir Khan, he said, taking care to name some of the party’s heavyweights.

So game plan is for senate elections to happen, where PPP gets majority with its allies and PML – N get some more seats, than have elections which could result in minority PTI govt. A minoroty or simple majority PTI govt handcicapped as not having 2/3 majority a hostile presidency and senate = Failure of Govt, early elections and back to bussiness as usual.

Qts to PTI is are they aware of this scenario and even if they wins elections how they propose to counter it?

  • afzaalkhan says:

NS today declared that PML – N should get more seats from sindh, that despite the fact that PML – N doesn’t even have party structure in place since his last govt. PPP and allies already agreed and now they are doing behind the scenes deal with PML – N to ensure Senate elections happen allowing senate majority for PPP + allies together with so called opposition of PML – N.

After they acheive this they would call on elections, PPP and MQM are sure they will be able to retain sindh (a realistic assumption) with may be PML – N able to get few seats in. Baluchistan same with PPP + PML – Q/N and JUI. Ik can get seats in punjab and NWFP but will have to beat both PML – N and PPP + PML – Q, which means a coalition govt of PML + PPP in Punjab. NWFP all these gonna make some seat to seat adjustment and cut of PTI seats.

Result, PTI not able to form govt in any province and may be able to get minority or if really tsunami a simple majority govt, with no govts in any province and post 18th amend having lil say, a hostile senate and presidency they stand no chance whatsoever to suceed

  • taukeer says:

Jokes aside I don’t see PTI forming a government after next election. Secondly PTI don’t want early elections. But I think PPP will manage to score an own goal in the courts and I don’t think they would last till march.

Dawn: Aitzaz, Dar helped forge accord

LAHORE: Backdoor contacts between the PPP and the PML-N are reported to have played a role in the former’s decision to hold Senate and general elections ahead of the schedule.

Officials privy to the contacts said that Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan of the PPP and Senator Ishaq Dar of the PML-N played the main role in this connection. Their last meeting in which details were finalised was held on Tuesday, the sources told Dawn.

A PPP leader claimed the meetings between the two leaders focussed mainly on Senate polls.

According to him, both sides desired that their candidates for Senate seats were elected unopposed, like in the previous electoral exercise.

The step will help check “selling and buying of voters (members of national and provincial assemblies)” by the candidates.

The policy was followed in the 2009 Senate polls, but this time the three major political parties—the PPP, PML-N and the PML-Q—fear that some wealthy candidates, especially from the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf of Imran Khan, may try to make use of their coffers to ‘win over’ voters.

The PML-N leaders claim that holding early general elections is also part of the understanding reached between Mr Dar and Mr Ahsan.

They said that the interlocutors had also been given the mandate to decide an interim set-up acceptable to the PML-N.

Tribune: Democratic transition: Sparring rivals converge behind closed doors

    LAHORE:
For all their barbed exchanges in public, the country’s two largest parties have met two-thirds of the way in backdoor negotiations over the democratic transition process, well-placed sources told The Express Tribune.

The ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have agreed to four out of their six-point negotiation agenda comprising discussions over Senate elections, snap polls and their modalities, interim set-up,
accountability bill, a strong and independent poll supervisory body and the issue of new provinces.

Both parties have agreed to continue their negotiations over the remaining items, sources said, adding that President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif are closely monitoring the negotiations process, ongoing for the last two weeks.

Close and trustworthy associates of both leaders are conducting the negotiations – Senator Pervez Rashid on Nawaz’s behalf and Malik Riaz, the real-estate tycoon, on behalf of the president.

    Negotiators

Sources said both Rashid and Riaz first met two weeks ago and discussed the agenda. Both report to their leaders promptly and are aided by a few men who provide the technical support for negotiations, sources added.

The two parties have converged on four points – early elections after the budget, Senate elections, accountability bill, and an independent poll commission.

The modalities of general elections and the interim set-up will be discussed by a different set of negotiators, sources said, adding that the recent meeting between Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and Senator Ishaq Dar was a part of the negotiations.

Dar and Ahsan reportedly discussed details of the interim setup and modalities of forthcoming general elections.

The last point, new provinces, will be discussed by the top leaders – Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

    Compromises

Sources further said that both parties have decided to leave judicial issues to the courts.

The PML-N would wait for the verdicts, but has decided to not resign from the assemblies – national, or Punjab.

The PML-N has also reportedly suspended its movement against the president.

Nawaz took stern notice of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s statements against President Zardari, and has asked him to refrain until negotiations are in progress, sources in the party told The Express Tribune.

In return though, sources say, the PML-N has informed PPP it would hold a public gathering in Multan in a month’s time to improve its party graph. The PML-N lost its strength in Multan city after the resignation of former stalwart Javed Hashmi.

    Confirmations

The negotiation process was confirmed by senior federal minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi while talking to The Express Tribune.

He added, however, that his party would step in to incorporate their suggestions once the dialogue matures.

If the PML-N resigns from the Punjab Assembly, Elahi said they would form a government with the PPP in the province and have informed the PML-N thus. The PML-N cannot achieve much without negotiations with the PPP, he added.

The negotiations were also confirmed by PPP’s former finance minister in the Punjab cabinet Chaudhry Tanveer Ashraf Kaira.

He said that Dar and Ahsan discussed the interim set-up during their negotiation.

PML-N’s Information Secretary Senator Mushahiddullah Khan, however, said he has no information about any ongoing negotiations.

He added, however, that the government and opposition discussing the modalities of the upcoming general elections, and the interim setup, was the norm. Malik Riaz and Senator Rashid could not be reached for comments, though.
